For this reason we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to ask that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding; that you may walk worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing Him, being fruitful in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God; Colossians 1:9-10 (NKJV)
Paul’s prayer for the believers at Colosse was for them to be filled with the knowledge of God’s will, in wisdom and spiritual understanding. He desired this for them so that they would walk worthy of the Lord in a way that was pleasing to Him. Paul wanted them to be fruitful in every good work and to increase in their knowledge of God.
As a Christian, do you seek to be filled with the knowledge of God’s will on a daily basis? I have often heard believers question their ability to know God’s will for their lives, both in general and in specific situations. Wisdom and spiritual understanding can most definitely be gained by reading God’s Word and through seeking Him in prayer.
Rather than simply getting up and going about your daily activities, how about starting your day with asking God to fill you with the knowledge of His will for your life? Allow Him to speak to your heart through His Word and to lead you by His Holy Spirit as you consider the day ahead of you. Maybe He wants you to be an extension of His love to someone who is hurting or in need. Maybe someone needs your smile or a word of encouragement. He may simply want you to be faithful in serving Him by doing what is right instead of what’s convenient or popular.
Whatever your situation or wherever you are in your life, may you be filled with the knowledge of God’s will!
