He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. Psalm 91:1
Do you live in the secret place? You may ask, “Just where is that?” Psalm 91 tells us that those who live in the secret place are abiding under the shadow of the Almighty. To be under someone’s shadow, you have to be very close to them. Otherwise, you would be outside the perimeter.
It is interesting to me that the psalmist calls this the shadow of the “Almighty”. This implies God’s strength, power, and protection. Living in the secret place of “the Most High” is a place of security and safety – a place where we can rest, be at peace, and trust.
At times, we all get caught up in our own lives and forget about the secret place. It is then that we slip into worry or exhaustion as we attempt to do things in our own strength. It is important to distinguish between doing and dwelling. If our busyness takes us away from our closeness with God, it may be time to slow down and sit at His feet – in worship.
We need to live in communion with Him – in the secret place – under the shadow of the Almighty.
