So much criticism and judgment today within the “church”. It troubles my heart to read about or hear a person rip apart another person’s character. I know that my opinion doesn’t really matter, in fact, opinions are what have brought us to this sad state of affairs among those who call themselves “Christians”.
Everyone seems to have an opinion these days and they evidently think it is their God given purpose in life to air that opinion, either on social media or to anyone who will listen (as though it somehow makes them more important to do so). But again, we end up sounding foolish and do the work of God a disservice when we use our opinion as an excuse for unkindness and character assassination. We cause division within the body of Christ and this does not bring glory to God. And, it is one of the reasons why many in today’s society don’t want anything to do with church or denominational differences.
None of us have enough information to stand in judgment of another person. Only God does. What really matters is what God says about the way we treat one another, isn’t it? So let’s take a look at some scriptures that speak to this issue:
And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you. Ephesians 4:32 ( KJV)
And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet-smelling savour. Ephesians 5:2 (KJV)
Who are you to judge the servant of another? To his own master he stands or falls; and he will stand, for the Lord is able to make him stand. Romans 14:4 (NASB)
You then, why do you judge your brother or your sister? Or why do you treat them with contempt? For we will all stand before God’s judgment seat. Romans 14:10 (NIV)
“Do not judge, or you too will be judged. For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use it will be measured to you. Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye?” Matthew 7:1-3 (NIV)
So then each one of us will give an account of himself to God. Therefore let us not judge one another anymore, but rather determine this—not to put an obstacle or a stumbling block in a brother’s way. Romans 14:13 (NASB)
Accept one another, then, just as Christ accepted you, in order to bring praise to God. Romans 15:7 (NIV)
