Thanksgiving and Family

This Thanksgiving I have a thankful heart for my family – husband, children, grandchildren.  I am thankful for the love and peace in my own home as well as in their homes.

As I think of each one, I reflect on their unique personalities and traits – things that put a smile on my face.  Although different in many ways, all bring their own special gift to our family.  And I am thankful for everyone of those special gifts.

Things wouldn’t be the same without my husband’s daily laughter and positive outlook, or my daughter’s phone calls and shared insights.  I’m so proud of her and the woman she’s become.  I would miss knowing that she and my grandson are well cared for by my son-in-law, who is such a hard worker and excellent father to Gage.  And speaking of little Gage, he’s an angel sent by God into our lives.  Who else would jump up and down in excitement when I come to the front door, or sing me Frank Sinatra songs?

And then there’s my son, who has always given me reason to be proud of his hard work and family values.  And of course, my vivacious daughter-in-law who brings her own special light to our family and keeps things fun.  I’ve always told my grandchildren just how lucky they are to have them both as parents.

Last, but not least, are my two teenage grandchildren.  I am thankful for the wealth of memories I have of our “Nana” vacations together.  So proud of them – both so smart and talented.  I can honestly say that I am also proud of their good character and behavior.  And, I’m looking forward to watching their futures unfold!

I have much to be thankful for this Thanksgiving, but my family is at the top of the list of what I consider to be God’s greatest blessings in my life.  Of course we all encounter obstacles and stress in our daily lives, but let’s not allow those things to overshadow our blessings.  May we, with thankful hearts, love and enjoy each other this Thanksgiving and throughout the year!

I will give thanks to you Lord with all of my heart.  Psalm 9:1a NIV
