Walking with God

He has made it clear to you, mortal man, what is good and what the Lord is requiring from you – to act with justice, to treasure the Lord’s gracious love, and to walk humbly in the company of your God.  Micah 6:8

As Christians, we sometimes have to remind ourselves that this life is about walking with God. Christ’s sacrifice made that possible for us.  If we’re not careful, we make it all about us and try to fit God into our perception of what our life should be like.

As I’m reading through the Bible this year, I’m noticing things about God’s character as He walks with the patriarchs of old.  I’m finding it to be an interesting journey, as different ones in the Bible navigate their walk with God.  Although they are never perfect in their walk, God is always faithful and just in His.

There seems to be a pattern of God righting wrongs and injustices as He has compassion on those who are mistreated or in need.  He also judges righteously and loves upright living.  He walks with, speaks to, guides, and provides for those who are following Him.  He not only hears their prayers, but answers when they call.  His presence is with them.

Through Christ, we are able to have forgiveness of sins and right standing with God.  He speaks to us and guides us through the Holy Scriptures and the indwelling of the Holy Spirit.  We are given the privilege of seeking Him through prayer and knowing that He hears us.  It’s obvious that God still wants to walk with us.  He wants relationship with us!

Is walking with God your main priority in life, or have lesser gods distracted you from this pursuit?  We are all guilty at times of allowing other people or things to take center stage in our lives.  But when we take the path of loving God deeply, with all of our heart, everything else just falls into place.

May you experience the deeper meaning of life that comes from walking with God.
